When you're in San Francisco be sure to drive out to Treasure Island.
The view of San Francisco is superb. Treasure Island was off limits to
everyone but the military for many years. When the navy moved north,
the island opened up. If you like run-down old buildings the island
itself can be interesting.
Both Angel Island and Alcatraz are interesting. Unfortunately they've
fenced most of the old buildings on Angel Island. Too many people
ignored the No Trespassing signs. I believe there are park service
tours that sometimes take people inside some of them. Both Angel
Island and Alcatraz require that you make reservations for a ferry
ride. Don't expect to just show up and be able to get a ticket.
China-town in San Francisco is fun to wander around. The Oakland docks
and Alameda can also be interesting if you want to see commercial
shipping.
Many of the relatively un-impressive bridges on Highway 1 provide
excellent views if you park your car and wander around a little. The
streams emptying into the Pacific usually come out of fairly steep
canyons.
I'm also up for meeting but I don't seem to be able to make plans that
I can stick to anymore. If I'm aware of a meeting I'll try to join if
I can.
