Just back from Photokina in the last half-hour - an exhausting day!
The E-3 lump of wood in a glass case was a sick joke but oh boy, that
E-400 feels so nice! I only handled it for a few minutes but it's so
small and neat. Really comparable to an OM4.
The new Pentaxes were a bit of a let-down - nice features and
interesting pancake prime lenses, but poor viewfinder info. But a lot
of interest in them - they seem well priced - but they'd run out of
brochures and the weekend is still to come...
The Nikon line-up D50/80/200 seems well placed, but the Canon stand
was a bit poorly organized with little documentation available and as
I haven't followed them too closely I'm lost with the 300/350/400
evolution, the 20/30D, and whatever else. The Leica M8 felt odd. The
viewfinder is at the extreme extreme left as noted by someone else.
Monster printing seemed to be the keynote of the show - one printer
was at least 12ft wide - size seems to matter.
Time for a beer and a look at some brochures. And to nibble the Oly
XD-card-shaped gummy sweets, and play with the Nikon disco duck.
