You could do that but here's another option. 49 and 55mm filters aren't
used on much of anything these days except old Oly lenses (and maybe a
Pentax or two). The used market is aflood with them as evidenced by
this ebay ad from a seller with very good feedback (otherwise I don't
know him)
<http://stores.ebay.com/Eastok-Sundries_Polarizer-filters_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ16QQftidZ2QQtZkm>

In this subset of his store list (polarizers only) he has two 55mm B+W
circular polarizers with a BIN of $15.95 and one with case for $17.95.
There aren't any B+W's in 49mm listed (at this store at least) but there
are plenty of Hoyas and other brands... and hundreds more listings
besides this store. Or you could simply add a 49->55 step-up ring.
Caution: One of his 49mm listings is in error, it's actually 48mm which
you can see since he takes a photo of each item.

By the time you get up to 67mm there are a lot more current lenses in
competition for those used filters so prices are higher than would be
indicated by just the size difference. I didn't find any used B+W's but
there are lots of Hoyas around. I don't think it would be very
practical to use step up rings to get from 49 or 55mm up to 67mm but it
probably could be done.
