I'd like to say two small things here..

1st: I think most of us today we have no adequate time and adequate
perspective to really reflect on these things (war, risk, death etc),
which appear to move very fast, in complex and rather unprecedented
scale, and nonetheless, under a smoke of confusion and intentional
propaganda from all sides.. So, some opinions of people cought in this
reality might appear selfish, but still they are very human and
natural..

2nd) Personally I wouldn't assume anything very quickly. Nothing about
'how many thousand of deaths' were prevented. Not even how 'insane'
some terrorists are. Not only I have to be sceptical about whatever I
hear from any side (often revealed different after some time), but
also by observing things lately, I mainly see very 'sane' politicians
from both sides leading us in the world of extreme polarisation, very
'sane' citizens from both sides supporting lies and propaganda, very
'sane' religious fundamentalists of both sides setting a real threat
for this world, very 'sane' international crimes from both sides
commited in hoping to reap the democracy and justice of tomorrow ..

It is the 'sanity' (or rationalised insanity) of our times that is
also our tragedy as humanity.
