where this guy sand-blasted the front element of a lens or two.

Am I missing something, or would it just be too obvious to get a cheap 2nd 
hand UV filter or two and sand-blast the filter(s)?  Could fit more than one 
lens as well.  Rather than screw up a perfectly good lens.
