As per all the previous answers to this question on
the the aircraft maintenance side of it. I am an
aircraft mechanic, I hate the term "aircraft
maintenance technician" or AMT, for a major US
airline. I hate to admit to the decline in aircraft
maintenance in the past few years. As to the statement
of the inspector sent to Singapore and back because he
would not sign off 400+ write-ups, if saying they were
not airworthy items is what it takes for you to fly
Northwest, then by all means fly Northwest. You would
be shocked to learn what some of those "non-airworthy"
items actually are. If you remember the footage of the
plane landing in LAX with the nose wheel turned
sideways? Maintenance on that plane was done in
Singapore, it was Jet Blue I believe, and that was the
second time that exact thing happened to them. With
the bankruptcies, and employee givebacks, the industry
is lucky to be in the position they are in. Believe
me, it could be worse. Please don't fly an airline
just because they are the lowest fare, because as the
saying goes, you will get what you pay for.
