For your criterion of pure optical quality, it has outstanding 
resolution, but considerable field curvature and pincussion distortion

compete with the 90/2.5 for flat subject copy work, but might just 
outperform it for natural subjects. Field curvature can actually be an 
advantage for some 3D subjects, depending on the direction, the shape of 
the subject and whether you want more or less apparent DOF.
