I almost never walk any distance with a zoom lens on an OM. I know zooms
were made for the one-lens solution, probably for that sort of situation,
but I've never liked carrying them for a distance. It is not just the
weight, but also the size, and the way they don't balance, that I don't
like. Most of the time if I know I'm going to be walking much distance, and
I'm taking an OM, I'll take 2 or 3 primes, stuffing the extras into pockets.
But I think I may be making an exception with the little Kiron 70-150/4 I
got recently.

When walking in Bolivia last month, most of the time I carried a Stylus Epic
2.8 and a 35RC, in two seperate belt pouches, and the C5050 in a small case
with a shoulder strap. That, along with a water bottle, is about all I
wanted to carry, such as one hike we made on mountain trails to a remote
village in the Andes, 15 kilometers beyond where even the four-wheel-drives
would go. The rest of my stuff was piled on the donkeys we took along. Of
course, the stupid donkey never took a picture. As the saying goes, the
camera in your pocket takes way better pictures than the one packed on the
donkey.

Judging by the news the last couple days, I'm glad I'm not in Bolivia now.
It's getting pretty rough. The president resigned (was forced out), which
seems to be almost a yearly occurence down there.
