I'm a fan of the Cullmann QT system: small, light, and absolutely secure.
Therefore, on every MD, winder, and Zuiko with a tripod collar, there's a
Cullmann "footy thingy." And on every tripod head, whether Cullmann, Bogen, or
my ancient for-mud-and-water-use Quick-Set, there's a Cullmann "receiver."
(What the hell do you call these bottom parts anyway?)

One of my favorite heads is a Manfrotto 405, the 410's bigger and better
brother. One of the Manfrotto QT plates for it has a Cullmann "receiver"
permanently attached in order to accommodate all the gear with the Cullmann
"footy thingies." The only gear that has an actual, genuine Manfrotto 405 QT
plate attached is the big, heavy stuff: 300/2.8 Tamron and Mamiya RB67.

It's neither a criminal offense nor a venal sin to screw together whatever bits
and pieces suit your purposes. Stick an Arca-Swiss "receiver" on the Manfrotto
plate, then fuggedaboudit and shoot happily ever after.
