The seller does not seem to deal in many cameras, mostly old 'collectible'
antiques and bits and pieces. I am becoming very leery of buying any photo
equipment from people who do not know an aperture from a apple. And they
use that ignorance to hide behind, using terms like "sold as-is" and "I
think it looks okay but might need a service."

But then buying from fellow photog's can be disappointing too - my last
purchase was from an Aussie ebayer selling Oly gear who I assumed knew
about what she was selling. The 50/3.5 had a sticking aperture mechanism
and the 100/2.8 had a scratch on the front element that could hardly be
missed. I put up with the scratched 100/2.8 but complained about the 50/3.5
which she got repaired for me.

You did well to get a refund, but then I've found that most people are
reasonable and feedback provides a powerful incentive to keep customers happy.

I've got an 'excellent condition' 35RC on the way to me at the moment
(3874107987) which I am really hoping is as-described. His feedback is 132
and 100%, he has been selling Oly microscope gear and electronic test
equipment so I figure I stand a better than average chance of getting a
good item.
