My suggestion is to take it apart and clean it up. I had the same
problem on a 4T (which now works beautifully) and I've also had to take
those bits off an OM-1N as it only operated at one shutter speed (long
story).

It's actually very straightforward indeed. There are only a couple of
things to watch:

1. Set the ring to 1/1000 first and don't lose the relative positions of
the shutter speed ring gear to the gear within the body itself (at the
bottom). It's not the end of the world if you get it wrong, since
Olympus helpfully put a little hole in the gear in the body to mark the
1/1000 setting.

2. Don't lose the little ball bearing that pops out of the top left. Its
purpose is to "click" the shutter speeds in.

There are instructions on the Web: "Camera Craftsman disassembly of
OM-1", but for your purposes their OTT. Worth having for reference,
though. I can't remember where they are, but if you can't find them, let
me know off-list and I'll e-mail them through to you (7Mb file).

I presume you're not local; if you were, I'd be happy to help. It's only
1/2 hour of a job, max.

Regards,

Simon
