Sounds good to me -- that's the battery check function, btw.  And if I
remember correctly, if the battery check light stays on as you depress the
release, it's your "long exposure" warning -- time to use a flash.  And I
seem to recall that if you install a flash on the shoe, a different lamp
glows after the battery check if the camera is going to fire the flash, but
it won't fire a flash if the exposure if fast enough for a hand-held photo.
Check the camera out to be sure, though -- it's been a while since I last
saw one of these!

BTW, all three lights you see when pressing the release are illuminated by
one lamp.  The one on the front is lit by a plastic tube (early version of
fiber optics?) that's laid against the lamp over to the front of the top
cover.  The others just have peep holes next to the lamp and reflectors to
direct the light where you see it.  Then there's another lamp for the "flash
firing" indicator.

It should be close enough, exposure wise, but they won't last as long.  I
can't imagine how it would cause a problem!
