Agreed indeed that 'chai' is not in origin Russian.  But in the context of
Clockwork Orange, its route into English has to be seen as via Russian.  On
the assumption that the 'argot' is accepted as English!

It was interesting wasn't it?  However, I should question the idea that
"chai" is of Russian origin.  It is either Arabic or Hindi; perhaps it
therefore becomes of Russian origin because all Indo-European languages have
a common origin ...
