George,

I understand your frustration, and you're probably
right that it was a hoax.

I did want to clear up one term in Ebay's response --
"spoof". That is a widely used term in computer
security, and I don't believe that Ebay is intending
to convey that they don't take these hoaxes seriously.

It is sad that wonderful technology like the Internet
and the World Wide Web have become the new
international "street corner" for fraudsters and con
artists, but it's not surprising either.
