Hi John,

Chuck offers some great info. I would get on the Blue Line (of the T) to
Government Center, jump on the Green Line to Copley Square. Here you have
the Hancock Building, Trinity Church and the Boston Public Library (the
first public library in the US -- go to the top floor of the old section,
also some nice features on the outside). From Copley Square, go North on
Claredon to Commonwealth Ave and head East and walk through the Public
Gardens. After the Gardens, head North on Charles, turn east Branch up to
Walnut St. (If you can find Acorn Street here in Beacon Hill it on of the
oldest Streets in Boston) Take Walnut South back to Boyleston St. and head
East. You will pass Boston Common and the Capital. Take a right on Park
off of Beacon and left on Tremont. The Granery Burial Ground will be on the
left and is worth a walk through. Next, turn left on Court Street to the
Old State House (nice photo op). Depending on how much time you have, you
can continue straight onto State Street and catch the Blue Line back to the
airport or turn left the Faneuil Hall (very tourist) but walk through
Faneuil Hall and over the North End (Boston's Little Italy) for good coffee
and food, the North Church and Paul Revere's Home.

I hope this helps. If you have the funds you could probably take a taxi
from Logan to Copley for less than $25.00. Or take this tour in reverse by
taking the Blue Line to State.

Dean

John Hudson asked:

Can anyone recommend some photo opportunities in and around the Boston
airport area and whether there are any city bus tours starting and
finishing at the airport. According to my flight itinerary, I arrive at
terminal E and depart from terminal B.
-----------------------------------------
Hi, John
Start here:
<http://www.massport.com/logan/>

and choose "Getting to and from Logan" which takes you here
<http://www.massport.com/logan/getti.html>

then choose the "Logan Shuttle" which takes your here
<http://www.massport.com/logan/getti_typeo_logans.html>

The Logan shuttle simply runs around the airport stopping at all the
(active) terminals and also the "T station" (subway) at the airport
entrance. The "T station" doesn't show on this map of the airport but
is located at the "U-turn to terminals" near the bottom of the map.
<http://www.massport.com/logan/pic/c_loganmap1.gif>

This "T station" is the "Airport" stop on the MBTA "Blue Line" which you
can see here:
<http://www.massport.com/logan/getti_typeo_mbtas.html>
When choosing a direction you will want to choose "inbound" which means
inbound toward Boston. The second stop is "Aquarium" which leaves you
at the Boston aquarium which is on the waterfront of Boston harbor.
Proceeding on to "Government Center" at the intersection the Green and
Blue lines will drop you in the center of town with plenty to see.
However, the distances are short and you could as easily walk there from
the aquarium. Be prepared for possible personal search on the subway.
(Note that, in Boston, when people refer to "the T" they mean the
subway. However, you will see circular signs with a "T" in the middle
which can mean "transportation" of many kinds including buses.)

You might also want to catch the "Red Beantown Trolley". Here's a map
of its route around the city which also shows that you can catch one
near the entrance to the aquarium. Stop #1 (far right, mid map)
<http://www.brushhilltours.com/maps/large.html>
The airport is not visible on this map. It's to the right on the other
side of the harbor. Cost is USD 24 and tour length is 1.5 hours as
shown on the following schedule.
<http://www.brushhilltours.com/tours/beantown.html>

Have a good time!
