Ah, that sounds like the curtain spring has lost tension. On the G's, it's
very easy to push down (up?) on the end of the curtain shaft that's visible
from the bottom and push the "star nut" up over the retaining spring on the
other end so that it looses all tension. You can tighten it, but unless you
get to the nut on the top end and reposition the retaining spring, it's
gonna just slip again.

Yes, Olympus did create a service manual, but it's largely worthless.

Thanks for the help. I removed the bottom cover and MD switch and tightened
the curtain wind roll. It had quite firm click as it turned and seems to
lock in position. I set it where the curtain seems to run correctly (by ear
and eye compared to other curtain).
I guess I need to take some shots at 1/1000 and check the exposure from one
side of print to the other to check curtain
speed.
