FWIW, I'm veryyy happy w/ my 85~250.
Big and heavy dampens camera/diaphragm vibrations :))
Slow, aside of which film and tripod you prefer, it focuses sharp w/1-8
screen.
I prefer two touch zooms too.
And it works very well w/ the 2X-A - yes it does, try it @ f11 (22).
Only thing I don't like is that when turning focusing ring, pol filter must
be adjusted again (linear pol, no experience w/circular ones)
Best about it, it was my one and only fang: paid 200 LNIB.
