Well, Rob, if you do take it all you don't need to consider weight-limits
for your carry-on: you simply need to book the entire A340 :)

My take on tings: leave the Ricoh at home -- the MP is all the p&s you'll
need (ducking for cover). Also, I am not sure with the tripod -- they're
nice to have but annoying to travel with. In any event, you should consider
checking in the tripod, rather than taking it in the cabin. Monopods are
strictly considered as "terrorist weapons" and will give you a nice
argument with the public annoyance officers. Tripods may or may not get by.
 At least, that's my experience.

How old is your lil'one? Most small ones do not appreciate being dragged
along, much to their own distress (and then, by transitivity, to the
distress of fellow travellers -- which is how I, not having children
myself, have come to acquire this wisdom). If he's old enough to be
distractable (toys, coloring-books etc.) then think about bringing ample
(take what you consider appropriate for a flight, then multiply by 4 and
you've almost identified what's ample) distractions such that he too gets
 an enjoyable flight.

Otherwise....enjoy. But do tell if Aussie refers to Austria or Australia --
 I never know which....

I do approve of your choise of LowePro -- good quality, even if their
products do not exactly fit my main "travel-needs" (my MF and main OM gear
lives in LowePRo bags as does myPentax outfit).
