[OM] Epson 2200

Hi Steve,
Finding the right printing paper is like trying to find the right film. I
see a photograph where someone has used a certain film and think I just have
to try that, so I order some from B&H or Adorama. I shoot two rolls, and
something else interesting turns up on the horizon. It's all very
seductive. The end result is a lot of unused film in the refrigerator, and
nothing much learned about the characteristics of any film. That doesn't
make sense, so I decided to stick with APX100, TRI-X, and Velvia100 for the
next year.

The same thing holds for digital printing papers. I finally decided to use
only Epson Enhanced Matte for proofing. It is inexpensive, and a really
nice paper in my estimation. And when I get something I like, I can print
it on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308,a fine art paper, using the same settings.
I'm trying to stick to these papers, but it is difficult. The only changes
I'm planning for the near future, (or when I have some idea what I'm doing,
whichever comes first), is ink. The MIS Eboni Black is blacker than the
Epson Matte Black (which is a little brownish). You just stick the MIS
cartridge in with the Epson cartridges.

That said, I just ordered a sample pack that includes two of the papers you
recommend... Photography is a compulsion that most normal people wouldn't
understand.
Dick

You might want to check out the link below. Ethan Hansen of Dry Creek
Photo has recommendations for paper for the Ultrachrome Epson
printers. The info looks quite good; I will have to try these papers
out sometime.

Sounds like color management to me! ;-)

Dick,
You might want to dig up the Shutterbug review of the 2200 (March or
April 2003?). I think the reviewer found something similar, that
printing B&W with BO printing gave very nice results.

I haven't tried Premium Glossy on the 2200 because of the bronzing
issue, but I can recommend Epson Premium Lustre, which is many user's
favorites. I also really like Iford Galerie Smooth Pearl. FWIW,
Ilford has released printing profiles for this paper, and I printed
out some test prints with it, and the profiles look *really* good.
Very neutral for a canned profile.

Sounds like you're getting very nice results from the printer.
