Well I went ahead and ordered the Tamron slide in holder for the AF
version of the 300.2.8 (along with a few other items) It's pretty neat
but unfortunately it is several mm too fat just like the guy at Tamron
tech said. But i wanted to see it anyway and it won't cost much to send
back. Too bad something like it wasn't incorporated with the manual
version of this lens. The good news is that the 43mm Tamron CP listed to
fit the AF carrier _does_ fit the old style carrier as well. It is
lacking the rotating ring as Walt mentioned and seems to work just fine.
And not too expensive for a specialty item @ $25,
