Hello Brian. I checked back a few old emails and the company is DHL not
UDL. A slip on the keyboard. DHL is a division of Deutshce Post.

From what I was told NZ Post lost their monopoly on postal services in 1998
and they now have to compete for business against some 30 other private
companies. There are even private postal boxes next to the standard NZ Post
boxes. DHL has the contract to handle the NZ international parcel division.
A list member from NZ might be able to verify this.

In my case I had to pay for the postal charge from NZ to OZ then I had to
pay for DHL to check the parcel through customs (their handling fee) and
then pay the duty.

This has never happened with parcels posted from other OS destinations where
the item was handled by Australia Post as soon as it landed here. Some
items I have had to collect direct from customs and declare the value but
most were delivered to my local post office to be collected.

Have other list members had this experience from NZ?

Michael.
