Yep, my CF works perfectly and next time I'll get a larger one (at least
256Mb).  Don't you think these two cards are really named backwards?
The CF is the larger of the two, but contains intelligence.  The
SmartMedia is 'smart', but is much thinner!

To me SmartMedia is just too darn fragile.  CF seems much more reliable.
You
can do anything you want with it in the PC, including formatting it, and
the
cameras are all still happy.

My new IBM Thinkpad X31 (work) has both a PCMCIA slot and a CF Type II
slot.
Very handy.
