IRRC when the rear lens node (?) is placed at twice the focal length you
get 1x image size. So with the  38/2.8 mounted directly to the camera
you're probably going to get very roughly 1x image size. Why not use a
50mm macro? I suppose you could try both the 20 and the 38 to have two
different magnifications that are pretty compact ... but the flash gear
is hardly compact.

Is it really possible/feasible to mount the 38/2.8 directly on the
camera body? I should try that...
