Lots of reinventing of the wheel goin' on, it seems to me :-)
Why not just use Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/)? It's free software,
easily installed on nearly any LAMP server (and even on Windows servers, I've
done it myself) and handles picture uploads, album and thumbnail creation,
captions, comments, forward and back image references, etc, etc, etc... With
some little additional effort, it can be incorporated into a PHP-Nuke, XOOPs,
Post-Nuke, whatever CMS environment also.
