I've had the zuiko 50-250 for a few years and have never had problems with
bad bokeh.
I think the bad rep is probably due to f5 being pretty slow for the shorter
end - DoF is never
going to drop off quickly until you get above 150mm at least. Excellent
sharpness throughout
the range is its strength; lack of close-focus ability and tripod mount are
the weaknesses.
Great travel lens though - when going light I take a 28 f2.8 and the 50-250
with a 4ti and a
beanbag. Pretty versatile for the weight! With the 4ti attached its also
about the most powerful
metering tool you could ever want.
