I'm sure he needs no introduction to list members in the PacNW . For the
rest of you I can say he was a NW icon famous for his wilderness photos
and for introducing the 100 Hikes series of guide books. He was an
untiring supporter of trails which he featured in his books. His photos
appeared in Saturday evening Post, Sports Illustrated and other major
publications. Perhaps most noted for the covers of the Seattle Times
Weekly Pictorial. His work may not be considered as "serious" by some
because a lot of it featured people doing things rather than artsy shots
although he did plenty of this so-called serious work. It has come to my
attention that Ira recently passed away after suffering from cancer.
"Washinton Trails" June issue paid tribute to him. Great cover photo of
him with one of the huge view cameras he is famous for carrying through
the notorious NW brush. Don't know whether or not he used anything
smaller than a 4x5 so no OM content other than the fact that he inspires
me to get out and use mine.
