All T and Ti's should have come with chrome battery caps, but if a black one
was swapped over, that could cause problems. Remove batteries, tighten
bottom screws, install new batteries, try battery check.
Though it does sound like a loose ground, the 5 beeps per second may mean
worse trouble.
