It seems they don't pay much attention to detail. Just like in the
description they say it has normal cosmetics and some signs of use, but
they completely fail to mention anything about the engraved (ssn?) number
on the top cover. They leave it to the buyer to carefully examine the
photos and discover this. An honest seller would never leave that out
of a description, especially for a collectible item such as this.

No, it's well within the range of known M-1 serial numbers.
