Give IMatch a try.  You can download a 30 day free evaluation version from
www.photools.com.  It's by far the most sophisticated image cataloging
tool available.  It even has a built in programming interface so that you
can write your own scripts to manipulate the database and images.  At $50
it's also one of least expensive.
