Hi Guys,

While not quite OM related, I'm hoping you guys may be able to help me with
this as I would be using the scanner to scan images taken with OM gear !!

OK, so firstly I have plugged in my CDFO's HP Scanner (HP ScanJet 4300C).
It's a couple of years old now, and she4 used it once (when she first got
it, to prove it worked !). Only thing is, now it doesn't. Software
installs fine. Software recognises scanner. When you do a scan, it goes
through the whole procedure absolutely correctly, but the output is a
totally black image. Even tried plugging it back into her machine (on which
it originally worked) and still the same fault.

I can't really help, but wonder if it's on a SCSI II adapter. If so, might need to check termination, etc.

Which brings me to my next point. I've read a couple of good reviews of the
Epson Perfection 2400 Photo, and wondered if anyone here had any thoughts on
it. I know, I should probably go for a dedicated Film Scanner, but I could
really do with something that does both (the Epson has a supposedly rather
good film adaptor system thingy !).

I have an Epson Perfection 1200 with the thingy (transparency adapter?). It does a pretty good job scanning larger format negs. The negs I have are not good quality but valuable as family records. I can do them justice, and compared to the alternative, which in my case is storage in a shoebox, it's more than a fair trade. The 2400 might actually give you 1200 uninterpolated ppi, which would not be too bad at all. I would still save for a good used Polaroid SS4000 for 35mm.
