When I got my Ph.D. I insisted on being called "Your Royal Highness" (to
anyone who asked what I preferred to be called). Now I'm just happy being
called.

Understandable, even if only a little and for a short while. When
my daughter got her degree in veterinary medicine and began
practicing, she insisted that everyone address her as "Doctor" for
at least six months. She had earned it, and we all did. Then she
went back to just being Linda.

Ego - definitely! Apparently when he was knighted he started
insisting that all his friends refer to him as Sir Paul. They
thought he was joking but by all accounts he was dead serious.
