I have a solution to the wind/swaying bag issue. I have never been happy with the suspended bag, as it seems like it is ALWAYS swinging, and the time you really want the extra support is when the wind is blowing. In addition when I am backpacking, my pack is WAY to heavy to suspend from my light tripod.

what I do is carry a nylon strap with a laddr buckle. the pack is set on the ground underneath the tripod. the strap is attached to the pack, wrapped around the base of the tripd head (around the center column) and pulled so that it creates downward tension on the tripod. Try it and I think you will be amazed at how stable a 'flimsy' tripod can be.

I learned years ago to just hang the camera bag from the tripod.
Just slip the strap around the center post (above the base) and
let the bag hang down between the legs. (that didn't sound
good).

This works fine, unless there is a strong wind which could get
the bag swinging. This mass also has the benefit of providing a
vibration dampening affect.

I use this technique quite often with my backpacking tripod,
which is flimsy, at best. Works great, less filling.

Best of all, it has the advantage of keeping your bag of goodies
right with you instead of getting kicked, stepped on or getting
grabbed by the local hoodlums.

Another way to attach weight to the tripod is to trade in the
OMs for a N*k*n or C*n*n "WonderDigit".

You read it here first!

AG-well, it could possibly be misconstrued-Schnozz
