When my LS-30 was working, I tended to use the Nikon software more than
Vuescan as I found it adequate enough.

But now with the 4000, under XP, Nikonscan just too unstable.  I avoid
it as much as possible. 

Another thing I don't like about the Nikonscan is if I want to make some
adjustment in the software, I have to wait for the image to be
rescanned again before the results can be seen.

However, under Vuescan once the image is scanned and in memory, you can
make all kinds of adjustments and see the results in a few seconds.
