I noticed that for $75 one can buy an OM-PC body, mount a world-class $25

To capture images digitally in near-darkness, from my research, I'd have to
get one of "them there" $2,000 digital bodies which won't even meter with a
manual focus lens. To do available light, it's (what?), $2,200 to buy a
digital body/lens and be stuck with a 75mm perspective at f/1.8.

There's no other way right now, is there? Have I missed something?

I think you're correct. In fact, I found a website where someone was getting pretty darn good result w/ ASA 3200 B&W pushed to ASA6400. It will be a while before digital can touch THAT.
