Aren't the Hassy's used with strobes up in the rafters at the basketball
games? If so, I'm confident the reason that they're used is the high
synch speed.

I'm actually surprised that they haven't moved to digital for that stuff,
but I guess you could slap a Phase One back onto the 500ELM if you wanted
to.

"My friend (Minolta bigot) said specifically the reason he moved to an AF
was because he couldn't catch the action (nobody can allegedly) with a
manual focus. From the pics I see, the action looks just fine. "
That's total crap. Photographers were taking great action shots long before
AF. How? By working hard and developing appropriate skills (just as AF
photogs develop ways to deal with the lag). Remember the guy that shot
boxing with an 8x10 view camera? Panning, follow focus, etc are all skills
that any good photographer should know.

Also, he said the shutter speed on the OM's were too slow to not get a
blur. I don't see a single blur in that Mazda shot. So is it really that
hard to do "action shots" with a manual focus??
Again, total crap. Sure, there's very little chance that our 1/2000 shutter
speed really is that, but what do you think his 1/8000 top speed does for
him? Think about this: for many NBA basketball games, there is a
radiocontrolled camera mounted over the backboard. It's a Hasselblad 500ELM.
Bet the highest shutter speed there barely exceeds 1/350.

And anyway, sometimes a bit of blur is what makes a photo!
