Its common knowledge that Camera guru Maitani wanted to be an automotive
engineer (see the Maitani fan site). He majored in mechanical engineering
specializing in automobiles. He just happened to get hired by Olympus Kogaku
after graduation.

What is not common knowledge, is that he was also secretly hired by the Mazda
Motor Co, Japan,as a consultant for  designing their more exotic models. 
In fact according to folklore(probably true)the Miata is actually Maitani's 
brainchild.

The Miata and the OM-4Ti are so amazingly alike,it makes one wonder..
