Hi Matt & folks
Another possible cause of that lens flare crosses my mind. I've never actually
seen this cause and effect in operation, but I think it might be worth checking
the rear element for a group of tiny but deep scratches on the side of the
element that is on the view-finder side of the lens when it is on the camera
body.
