Good guess. The train was a westbound just about to enter Mount MacDonald
tunnel, the longest RR tunnel in North America (9.6 miles??), just to the
west of Rogers Pass. After a train goes through the tunnel, the exhaust
fumes need to be sucked out of the tunnel by a giant set of fans located on
top of the mountain. There is a signal that indicates red (stop) if a
train arrives and the tunnel hasn't been cleared yet. This location is on
railroad property, and we were there with permission and a railroad
employee escort.

No, but still some nice spots. We were in various parts of Ontario in
August and found some places that will be featured in future calendars.
But nothing I have ever seen beats the Canadian Rockies for pure scenery.
Lots of trains, too - but seldom with more than three engines these days
(A/C technology for those who know what I'm talking about).
