Omigod..... My Dad grew up in Defiance Iowa. I've heard some stories about
rugged Iowa girls riding on corncobs. But then....

The crosses we must bear.

It actually isn't that bad. One can almost get used to the
ocean of corn and soybeans. But try to get a replacement bulb
for an enlarger that hasn't been sitting on the shelf for twenty
years and shows signs of water damage.

Had an interesting "Iowa" experience the other day. I took the
girls for a walk in a park (remember my posts about the Jacob
Crumm Nature Preserve, just off of I-80) and afterwards went for
a drive down country lanes.

The fields are pretty much barren now, except for the odd field
of corn that hasn't been harvested yet. We found one field that
still had a stand of corn in it. We stopped, got out of the
jeep and went into the field so that I teach the girls a little
bit about corn plants and what that guy in the harvestor was
doing. While we were standing there looking at corn, corncobs
and the rows of plants here he comes down ourside of the field.
He stops when he pulls up next to us, shuts down and asks us if
we want to go for a ride. "SURE!" I respond and we pile into
the cab of the combine. As we ride about 3 meters above the
ground the girls are fixated on the corn entering the front of
the harvestor. What a learning experience for them. I had fun
too. When we got home, the youngest told mommy that we rode a
corncob.

Now my Iowa life is complete. We can move on now. Please?
