Bill,
I have this scanner. I use it under XP with Vuescan. You can also use it
under NT with the same. I believe there are Windows 2000 drivers available
on Minolta's website as well, so it should work fine under NT without
Vuescan.
Seriously, spend the $40 for Vuescan. It's worth it.
