After reading this I remembered a long forgotten RC buried in a camera bag.
I used this little gem alot during the mid 80's but put it away for over 12
years. I pulled it out of the bag today and it's still in EX+ condition with
one exception, the back foam.

Does anyone know where to get foam and a suitable replacement for the
mercury battery?

For foam replacement, I've used foam from craft stores, mouse pads, and from
the black foam paint brushes. I just cut it to the size needed and hold it
in place with double sided tape or by friction fit. Perhaps it better might
be to get the foam kits from Camtech.
The battery substitutes for the mercury ones are a subject quite often
covered here in detail, if you can check the archives. For battery
substitution, I use the 675 1.4 volt hearing aid battery, and use a small
strip of foam, or cardboard in one camera I think, to hold it physically
centered. Some use a small rubber washer to fill the extra space. The zinc
air battery lasts about 2 months, which is kind of aggravating after a
while. I think Clint from Olyfix had a note on a recent RC auction that one
can use the alkaline replacement batteries in the RC. I'm not sure what
exactly he meant by this, whether he meant it still reads correctly with the
1.5 volt battery, and won't damage the camera, or whether he had done a
conversion on that particular camera.

I guess you might experiment with low voltage batteries until you get a
battery that makes the meter read correctly. I've had a interesting
coincidence with 2 cameras I've bought lately. Both an OM1n and a Yashica
Mat 124g have been off in meter readings using the correct mercury battery.
They both were off the by same amount, and both were "corrected" by using
the 357 1.55 volt battery, which made them read accurately at all the
settings that I experimented with. Lucky coincidence maybe? The 124g was a
little harder to make work as I had to use a foam spacer plus a small piece
of metal foil to make the electrical connection. It was a cheap and maybe
temporary fix for those 2 cameras. I'm not too sure about what circuit
damage I might be inviting.
