Interesting comments - Do you think the T3's Carl Zeiss' lens is just way
better than most (Zuiko) lens, or do you think other factors are involved,
e.g. that it being a point and shoot, it has no mirror and no vibration?

You know, Richard, that's a very good question, and one that will bear some "scientific" experimentation... I will look into setting up such an experiment, comparing it to my 50mm f/1.8 (not a Made in Japan one, unfortunately. If someone wants to loan me one, I will try that out, too) on a tripod and with mirror lock-up. I have another camera with a Zeiss T* lens, my Yashica T4, and one thing I notice about both lenses is that they have really superb color contrast. I think this may be due to the T* coating, but I don't know for sure. Jim Brokaw or some of the other list members may know (Gary Reese, maybe?) Most of my Zuikos are single-coated, so I can't really compare them in that regard, either, I guess. Along these lines, I recently shot some vintage motorcycles (the bikes were stationary, parked as part of a concours) at the vintage races a few weeks ago. I shot the same bikes with by my T4 and my OM-1 with my silvernosed Zuiko f/1.4 (not the sharpest Zuiko, I know), and looking at the photos, the T4 photos looks sharper with better contrast (that is, when the T4 nailed the focus...sometimes the T4 got confused with the autofocus and focussed more on the background than the subject motorcycle).

Anyway, though. if I had to say at this point (and this is entirely subjective, mind), I would say that the lens is just way better. Zeiss apparently improved the Sonnar on the new T3 with a new design and formula just for this camera, so given that it is a very late, modern design and implementation, I would hazard a guess that the lens is just better....regardless of what the underlying reasons might be, with respect to what's important (the photographic image produced), all I can say is the results are pretty "fr*ckin" spectacular.

Coming back on topic, I must say that the photos I am starting to get in that I took recently with my 300mm Zuiko look superb....I have a lot of race photos from the AMA Superbike races last weekend I will be posting a link to soon (once I get them uploaded...)

The other thing that I am quite pleased about, and have experienced for the first time, is the OTF metering of the OM-2's (my 2S, specifically)....I've shot about 150+ frames with it so far and my exposures with it on "auto" have been dead on....very, very nice....it's amazing to me Oly first implemented this as far back as '75! Pretty dang impressive....
