For a studio, I'd be tempted to buy a real studio outfit with umbrellas,
softboxes, snoots, barn doors, reflectors, stands, and especially modelling
lights if using flash. Then, get to know how to light well by bunches of
experiments with people & things. Perhaps the best way is to take a studio
photo class.
