RE: [OM] New Olys-BIG ISSUESI don't think color management is a problem, many
mid-end DC (around 3MP) I have seen can print directly at Fuji Fontier with
great color. I have tried 30 shots with my E-10 too, the color accuracy is
better than most of the thousands prints I had made in the pass ten years with
film and one hour lab. Also there is no visible grain! Photos' life time have
no problem with Fuji Crystal Paper too! I will not invest on any new color
printer and mess with the expensive ink and paper. The current printing cost
for 4x6" here is 0.4US, expected to be drop very fast as the cost is the same
as normal film printing.

OM contents, I will still use my OM and slides for my own serious shoots. OM
and negative is still my only combination for company party shoots. But you
can't beat a E-10 for family shoots.

Oh, I forgot, colour management is an issue. A local dealer hear in Ottawa
actually has people come in to print their stuff off of flash cards because
they cannot figure out how to get the pics the colour they want (they charge
for this). It is no wonder why digital cameras so not seem to be making the
manufacturers money. We need one (or a system) that makes digital pics and
their "processing" just as easy as film. No such as system exists for the
AVERAGE consumer at this point (those on this list, I think, are we beyond
being an AVERAGE user). Actually, if you take everything into account, digital
cameras are a pain. When I see tourists here in Ottawa, they have digital
cameras, but when it comes time to take an "important" shot, it is always with
film. Will digital ever win over? Maybe, but it will not be for a long, long
time (or until a breakthrough product occurs). Maybe this new Olympus camera
will be it. Imagine if digital cameras never become more than toys or computer
accessories...what will happen then to these money losing lines? A big
question. I remember reading that the most important computer ever made was
the Commodore 64. Why? Because it could do everything and got the computer
into the home. It proved to Big Blue and others that home computing was for
real, hence the industry took off. We have not had such a product in the
digital realm. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
