the best feature of the high end C*n*n lenses is the optical Image
Stabilizer (IS) technology, which employs a moving prism inside the lens
(AFAIK). I borrowed the 100-400 f5.6 IS L and the amazing 400 f.28 IS L with
a 2x converter while on safari in Kenya this Summer. The IS technology,
although not perfect, did allow handheld photography even shooting at 800mm.
Results were excellent.

I did find myself switching off the auto focus most of the time so that *I*
could decide the point of interest rather than the camera! Apart from cost,
the other problem is weight: once you add the EOS 1vHS and a spare body, you
need a spare human body to cart them around :-)

I'd love to try an Oly 350/2.8 someday to compare (dream dream... :-)
