Hi Andrew

I am not sure what you mean by 'strange ring gear', but I have an original
Adaptall mounted on a 350mm mirror lens, and it looks just like the
Olympus-mount Adaptall-2, apart from the lack of a stopdown (DOF) button. I do
not need stopdown for a mirror lens, fortunately. Perhaps you are confusing it
with an Adaptamatic (pre-Adaptall) mount.
Re the 'OL' mount, it just says 'OL', not 'for Olympus OL'. One of my 'OL'
mounts actually has the old 'for Olympus OM' screw placing, and the offending
screw is thus blocked with epoxy. All my remaining 'OL's are OK.

NO! The early Adaptall's had a strange ring gear and one lens release
button. The Adaptall 2 "for Olympus OM" is a more compact redesign and has
a depth of field preview lever as well (not as handy as a Zuiko button but
just as effective). The later model Adaptall 2 is marked "for Olympus OL"
and has a screw shifted in position to avoid damage. All Adaptall's work
with all lenses but ideally, you need a model 2 and preferably one marked
OL.
