I'm not saying it should be anything. But with respect to stopping (freezing) the action two techniques are to pan with lateral motion (to reduce the relative speed of the subject across the field of view) or to pick subjects which either (as closely as possible) directly approach or retreat from the lens (thus little or no lateral movement to account for). All with an eye to reduce motion blur.

Tris:

Are you saying that the direction of the subject's motion should be
lateral (across the field of view) rather than approaching/receding from
the camera?
