Your Email inspired me to do the same, and my OM-2n has the s/n 773,xxx (why
does everyone put xxx ? Is there some security issue with revealing the
entire S/N ? Am I being too trusting in considering it ?!)

However, I know mine is not a real oldy as it has the "newer" version of the
metering screen (don't know what it's called). - You know, that screen with
the white dot pattern on it that is used for calculating exposure.
Apparently the older models of the OM-2n had all the dots concentrated in
the middle, and the newer models were more spread out. (I'm sure someone
here can tell you more about this than me !)

Is there any other info I can find from the s/n ? Any lists somewhere of
things like original place of production, sale, ownership, etc. ? General
history ?

Similarly my 50mm/1.8 lens (s/n 1,615,xxx), which I'm sure is a lot newer
than the camera as it originally came with my (now broken - usual problems
!) OM-10.

Finally, as I'm here, I have some messy marks on the corners of my mirror -
where it flips up and hits the pads. Is this a sign of new foam needed ?
Is this a DIY job or do I need to get a "pro" to do this !

Thanks,

Jon Mitchell

Hi,

A bit late, but I finally had a chance to take a look at the bottom plate of
my 2n:

> Lowest 2N I've seen 501,xxx.

Mine is 544,1xx it seems it's one of the oldies then! Perhaps the numbers
started at 500,000, then again, perhaps they didn't...

C-ya!
