Sometimes I forget and cover the light port for the display
in the prism housing with my hand or the bill on my hat.
Also, I have to depress and hold the shutter release for
a bit due to the duty cycle sampling rate of the low
powered off state. I assume the idle current is due to
the processor waking up occasionally to sample the
state of the shutter release. If you don't depress and
hold long enough, the circuits do not wake up.

If it is a problem with the display, removing the lens
should release the reset pin and you should get a beep,
which indicates the camera is active but display is not
functioning.
