Chris:

The Olympus Unofficial Sales File site has a wealth of information on
the OM system.

An original OM-1 would use Shoe 1. See:

http://www.taiga.ca/~esif/om-sif/flashphotogroup/shoes.htm

for details on this.

BTW, make sure the switch on the side of the camera is set to the "X"
position. The "FP" position is for flashbulbs. You might want to put
some nail polish on the switch so it stays in the "X" position.

You should be able to use either Winder 1 or Winder 2 with an OM-1,
PROVIDED it has a port to accept a motor drive. The very earliest OM-1s
had no provision for a motor drive or winder. When you look at the
baseplate there should be two covers: one for the battery, and one for
the winder. At one time Olympus could modify the original OM-1 to
accept a winder, but this was years ago, and would not be cost-effective
anyway.

The main difference between the two winders is that Winder 2 has a
"sequence" mode, and Winder 1 takes single frames only. Again, see:

http://www.taiga.ca/~esif/om-sif/motordrivegroup.htm

for details on winders and motor drives.

Sincerely,

Bill Stanke
